The Party

Below is the lineup of characters my friend Bob and I are running through CZ9 The Mouths of Madness using highly modified Castles & Crusades (C&C) game rules.  Except we've now added a third player--Clarence, he's very large and Australian--and I'm running them through T1 Village of Hommlet including my expanded moathouse and we're using a hodge podge of C&C and AD&D rules, with some carry-over from our initial S&W game.

The Party is the same gang of characters that we ran through Castle of the Mad Archmage (CotMA), converted from S&W to C&C.  This roster reflects the status of the party's standing as of the spring of 2011.  Also, we brought back a few characters who bit it back in CotMA just to see how they'd fare in C&C.  And we raised everyone to 2nd level, except Quisling who switched from an amorphous orc to a Monk, which is, believe it or not, one of the preferred classes for half orcs in the C&C rules.

Sigurd Human Ranger* 2
Str: 9    Int: 11   Wis: 13 (+1 at everything)    Dex: 15 (+1 to hit w/ missiles) Con: 16 (+2 HP)  Cha: 5 (-2 at gettin' any)
HP: 12       AC: 5 (7)  Armor: Studded Leather & Shield
Long sword, long bow, dagger
Notes: Ostensibly the party leader--because we rolled his character up first--but really an unlikeable dickhead.
Status: Left as collateral with bandits on 2nd level
* in our mod'd S&W rules, a ranger is a Dex-based fighter who gains the following special abilities: sneak around; extra attack when he surprises; Dex bonus applies to AC.  All of these are negated should the ranger wear metal armor.

Borrance Human MU 2
Str: 12 Int: 11 Wis:13 (+1 where it counts) Dex: 7 (-1 at getting the hell out of the way of hurtful things) Con: 9 Cha: 11
HP: 7   AC: 11 (10) Armor: Back hair
dagger
Spells: sleep
Notes: Least interesting party member

Godraviel Elfmaid 2nd level Fighter/Magic User
Str: 10 Int: 11 Wis: 9 Dex: 13 (+1...) Con: 9 Cha: 10
HP: 13     AC: 3 (5)   Armor: Chain & Shield, Dex
long sword, long bow
Special Abilities: +1 to hit w/ bow
Spells: Charm Person
Note: When I said that Borrance was the least interesting party member (above) I was obviously excluding elves.  Godraviel is the true dullard of the bunch.

Brodsky Human Cleric 1
Str: 10   Int: 10  Wis: 13 (+1 again!)  Dex: 15 (+1 to hit w/ missiles) Con: 12  Cha: 15 (+1 with the ladies)
HP:  7    AC: 4   Armor: Chain & shield
mace
Notable gear: holy water, holy symbol
Spells: No effing spells!
Status: Left for dead on level 3.  Next time, make yourself useful and get some damn spells!

Polvo, C, Dwarf 2nd level fighter
Str: 10   Int: 15 (+1 at Game shows)   Wis: 7 (-1)   Dex: 10    Con: 8 (-1 HP)  Cha: 18  +3 at gettin' busy!!
HP:  14 AC:  4   Armor: chain & shield
morning star, hand axe, cross bow
Special Abilities: man sized are -2 to hit, giants are -4
Notes: By virtue of owning the only 10' pole in the party, he was named team captain.  Also, he's the smartest and most charming member of the party.
Notable gear: 10' pole

Glebberd, A,  Halfrechaun* 2nd level ranger
Str: 9 Int: 13 (+1) Wis: 13 (+1)  Dex: 9 Con: 14 +1 HP Cha: 16 (+2 at baggin' nymphs)
HP: 17    AC:  6  Armor: leather & shield
short sword, short bow
Special Abilities: +2 to hit w/ bow,  man-sized are -2 to hit, giants are -4

Notable gear: flask of olive oil
Notes: in our campaign, halflings are default Rangers (See Sigurd Notes above) As possessor of the flask of oil, he was named Assistant Captain of Team CotMA

* In S&W, Halflings are a placeholder for all sorts of little people such as hobbits, gnomes, leprechauns, pixies, naga, etc.

Barkurp Human Barbarian 2
Str: 13 (+1 strongman)   Int: 6 (-1 at college admission tests)   Wis: 17 (+2!)   Dex: 6 (-1 to hit w/ nuclear armaments)   Con: 7 (-1 HP)   Cha: 13 (+1 at being a cool-ass mother fucker)
HP:  17   AC: 6 (6)   Armor: ringmail & shield
Spear, Short sword
Notes: Being dumb and slow but filled with heart, Barkurp is the fighting man that everyone wanted Sigurd to be.  Joined the party after the first session.  With all 6 of his abilities being either in the bonus or penalty, he is the most exceptional character in the gang.  Switched to Barbarian in the C&C conversion.

Cleaveborn Human MU 1
Str: 11 Int: 10 Wis: 12 Dex: 13 (+1) Con: 14 (+1 HP) Cha: 8 (-1 at impressing you)
HP:  6     AC:  9    Armor: Stiff upper lip, Dex Bonus
dagger
Spells: Sleep
Notes: Along with Barkurp the fighter, joined the party after the first session.

Quisling Orc* 1st level monk
Str: 9 Int: 14 (+1 at realizing that he's smarter than that lightweight Godraviel) Wis: 8 (-1 at something else) Dex: 12 Con: 12 Cha: 8 (-1, not the coolest cat around)
HP:  6   AC: 9 Armor: Foreskin, Orc bonus
cutlass
Notes: Charmling of Godraviel, except he's no longer really under the influence of the spell.
* One of the modifications we've made to C&C is that we've removed the word "half" from the racial description of half orcs.  They're just orcs.  And, strangely, Monk is one of the preferred classes of half orcs so we decided to go with that.
