Renowned cartographer R.R. Calbick--whose work has been featured on such highly acclaimed sites as The Restenford Project--has proven that he and I have more than one town in common. He's drawn up a John Quick style map of Hommlet as well. Check this out:
And let's not forget that town down the river, Nulb:
Hopefully Monsieur Calbick is madly at work on maps for Garrotten or Orlane as we speak. Or Saltmarsh even!
Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI'm learning. Any idea what program he uses to make these?
Hey Mystic S.,
ReplyDeleteI contacted Ron (the cartographer) and he had this to offer regarding his methods:
"I used Campaign Cartographer 3+ from ProFantasy Software. The John Speed style itself was from one of the Cartographer Annuals, although I did some custom work in some of the maps as well. It's a great piece of software, but you do have to pay for it. It's also CAD-based, so it has a bit of a learning curve if you're not familiar with CAD programs at all. Beyond CC3+, I also do maps in Photoshop and hand-drawn maps. I often use CC3+ in conjunction with Photoshop because some things are simply easier or look a little better with Photoshop."
I hope that helps.
